Making life easier for library staff

'...people take it for granted that a photocopier is available for them to use....lower maintenance and cost per page contract available from NRG was the most cost effective for us.'

We always welcome feedback from our customers, whatever their size, and were pleased when Stella Pilling the Library Manager at Harrogate NHS Library contacted us after reading a previous issue of Insight magazine.

Harrogate NHS Library is jointly funded by the University of York’s Department of Health Sciences and the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. The library is an important resource for both organisations and has an up-to-date collection of books covering subjects such as medicine, nursing, health sciences and the management of health sciences. It subscribes to 120 journals and has access to electronic resources using the eight PCs located in its IT room.

The library uses a Gestetner DSm618d photocopier which was purchased through the University of York.  Stella Pilling commented: “I’ve worked in libraries all my life and people take it for granted that a photocopier is available for them to use.”

“Our NRG copier is card-operated so we sell cards to individuals or departments depending on the number of copies they think they will need. This ranges from 7 to 1,000 copies. It’s a good system; it’s flexible and means that we do not have to keep large quantities of change. It saves the staff a lot of time and makes cross billing different departments as painless as it possibly can be.”

Stella continued: “We and our users depend on the copier so it has to be very reliable. It’s easy to use and the instruction booklet is clear. This is very important when lots of different people are using it every day and they may have little experience or skill in using photocopiers. It does double-sided copying much more easily than our previous copier, and prints on A3 and A4 paper as well as on acetates for overheads.”

Stella was impressed with the service from NRG when the copier was installed. She said: “We couldn’t be without a photocopier so were very pleased that the installation went smoothly. It arrived on the right day at the right time and linked up to the card device very easily.”

“Our photocopier is just right for a modern library – it’s small, compact, efficient, straight-forward and as reliable as a photocopier can be” she concluded.

John Mason, Finance Manager for the Department of Health Sciences at York University added: “We chose NRG when we consolidated our machines about five years ago. For our devices with relatively low usage we found that the lower maintenance and cost per page contract available from NRG was the most cost-effective for us.”
